Needle Lace Necklace.turkish Oya Necklace, tribal Pendant 。Traditional Turkish Boncuk Violet Enya Oya (beaded needle), violet and peridot green beads & sterling silver. Was traditionally used for edging scarves, linens, and garments. Uses beads, spangles, or pearls, to create delicate 3-D motifs. Created using a sewing needle to make tiny, intricate knots using beads. Traditionally, made by Turkish women to express emotions, marital status, stories, or social standing. Patterns had different meanings. Used for communication between villages before Turkey had a common language.
It generates many compliments and you get to tell a story about it’s his historical significance. No one will have a necklace like this. They are all one of a kind with slight differences in each one if the designs are similar. All needle work and beading done by hand, which is many, many, many hours of hand work. Approx. 17”length.
I worked with the artisans to design new Boncuk Oya. This one is vintage. Turkish Oya designs were used to communicate between different villages before Turkey had a common language.
These travel beautifully. You will be a part of preserving the historical crafts of Turkey.
